Billy had a rough day today! He had a restless sleep last night, which didn't make for an easy day. He did some physical therapy from his bed, bending his knees and stretches with his legs. After lunch Bill was able to practise getting up and down(from the edge of bed to the walker and back down to the edge of the bed). He then walked 110 feet and got back in bed, as he was very tired. It was then time for the lesson on the arm/wrist/hand brace. (It has a plastic part that goes over the lower arm/wrist and has little saddles that go over each finger. The saddles are connected with a rubberized twine to the back side of the hand to the plastic.) When this is worn, it allows stability for the wrist, yet it helps with flexing the fingers. As Billy pulls the saddles down with his fingers, it puts tension on twine, then it gently pulls the fingers back to the location they are naturally.
***Although he only walked what sounds like a short distance today, it is good for him. The bending of joints can be as strenuous on your body as being up and mobile, especially where it was 4-6 weeks since he used a lot of these muscles/tendons/joints. Also, if they work the same muscles all the time, it doesn't allow for the other ones to be at the same speed of recovery or strength. So he doesn't do the same routine each day.
